Has America really lost it’s way? Where and to whom do contemporary Americans look for inspiration? What kind of unique contributions is America making in an increasingly global community?

For over 30 years, hip-hop culture and it’s underlying themes of rising from nothing to something – and in turn – falling from grace have provided the world with a unique, and captivating insight into the American Dream.
COLD CHILLIN’: A proposed Spring 2012 show in the Gelman Gallery aims to explore these questions of American cultural relevance through a cross-disciplinary collection inspired by, and related to hip-hop culture and lifestyle.
