An annual event, the sophomore walkthrough took place this past Wednesday as the class of 2014 set up their desks to present their best work of the trimester. From metals and wood to design principles, projects were set up for display by the sophomores before leaving for an hour, while the department faculty and upperclassmen toured the fourth floor.
Aside from the typical walnut discs and tin-plate explorations, this year’s sophomore Design Principles final project was a big departure from the birdhouse project of last year’s class. Students were asked simply to solve a problem, backed with solid self-conducted research. Students tackled a wide range of problems, from industrial backpacks to new approaches to roofing techniques using recycled plastic bottles.
Callil Capuozzo, a sophomore and the latest addition to the RISD-ID.ORG team, took photos of some of the the desks on display [click through the images below to see full sized photos].
Looking forward to seeing what this class creates next Spring! Great job, guys.
