RISD 2nd Life | Storefront Opening

This past Friday, RISD 2nd Life, an art supply and materials recycling resource on campus, held a grand opening for its new storefront located at 351 South Main Street. Compared to its previous location (a trailer in the alley between the Design Center and the RISD Auditorium), this space offers much more freedom for the organization and storage of more materials and tools, as well as planned exhibitions and events.

RISD 2nd Life is headed up by our very own Joseph Escobar (ID ’13) among many other current students.

Hilary Wang (Glass 2014), the co-mastermind behind the storefront, had this to say about the move:

“Getting the storefront is huge step forward for 2nd Life, and marks a landmark in our relationship with RISD and the impact we have had and can have on the community.  Beyond that, it also shows the possibilities of what a group of students can accomplish. We are proud to have successfully cemented ourselves as an integral part of the RISD community. We hope, that by getting a storefront, we become more accessible to  the community and to the public. And take the message of recycling and upcycling to a wider audience.”

She also added that we can look forward to Better Again, a  successful gallery show that premiered last year at Carr Hous. It showcases unique examples of upcycling and recycling in art and design, drawing students from many majors to participate in the exhibition.
